This is my work on marking up the text of the sugar act. http://crocodoc.com/AJVzo
If I were to grade myself on the marking the text, I would give myself a 9 because I gave myself a 3 in all of the subjects. We didnt do the summary yet so I didnt include the summary. I think I might have highlighted too many things and I didnt totally understand the text so my comments may be a little off.
Stamp Act- Opening activity Describe what you think is the difference between a direct and indirect tax in 1-2 sentences
I think when there is a direct tax, it is being paid straight out but when theres an indirect tax, its hidden in with the things you buy.<---my guess
If you are being directly taxed, you are giving your taxes straight to the government and when it is indirectly, youre paying a person that will eventually pay taxes to the government.<---the real answer.
What class of people was more directly affected by the Stamp Act (Rich or poor)? Explain.
Rich, because the rich people had the jobs that needed paper and so they were taxed the most.
How did the Stamp Act raise concerns among the colonists about Britain’s right to tax them?
This upset the colonists because they feel that they should have a say in the taxing and that they had no rights.
Do Now Why did the First Continental Congress meet?
The First Continental Congress met because of the British's Intolerable Acts they put on the colonists. They saw that their natural rights were being taken away from them and they had to change that.
